The Burak Lab at the Hebrew University and the Moser lab at the Kavli Institute for Systems Neuroscience (KISN) are seeking two postdoctoral fellows in theoretical neuroscience, to take part in a joint ERC-funded project. The project aims to identify how thousands of neurons in the mammalian cortex interact with each other to achieve computational and cognitive functions.

Theory fellows taking part in the project will work on diverse theoretical and computational questions, which involve approaches ranging from pure theoretical modelling to analysis and interpretation of large scale neural data. Computational tools involve methods from nonlinear dynamics, machine learning, statistical physics, and information theory.

The two theory postdoctoral fellows will be based in Jerusalem, and are expected to interact closely with members of both labs, both remotely and during visits to the KISN in Trondheim. A generous budget will be available for travel between Israel and Norway, for travel and participation in scientific meetings, and for purchase of computing equipment.

We are looking for candidates with excellent demonstrated abilities in theoretical research, strong intellectual curiosity and drive, a keen interest in computational neuroscience, and an interest in relating theory to experimental data.

A strong research record in theoretical neuroscience, theoretical physics, mathematics, computer science, or a related field is required. Experience with research related to machine learning, statistical physics, nonlinear dynamics, information theory, or large-scale data analysis, as well as prior familiarity with research in computational neuroscience are advantageous.
